Still, if it consumes a lot of salty snacks, it can develop symptoms such as elevated body temperatures, vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. Take the cat to your vet immediately if you see any of these symptoms.

However, popular veggies chips are lower in sodium than traditional varieties. If your cat intakes excess sodium, it can have excess sodium in the blood. If your cat consumes a lot of veggie straws, it will end up consuming a lot of sodium.

The common causes of excess sodium in the blood are listed below.

– Salt poisoning: It is the excessive intake of foods that contain sodium. Most common causes of feline hypernatremia result from excess sodium production in the cat’s body or excessive loss of fluid.

– Dehydration; Cat can be dehydrated because they lack water or due to a hormonal imbalance that prevents them from feeling thirsty.

– Fluid losses, acute illness, and chronic diseases such as kidney diseases are other causes of excess sodium in the blood.

If you think your cat is suffering from excess sodium, talk to your vet immediately. The vet may perform a diagnosis to eliminate other conditions like electrolyte fluctuations. The vet will treat and prevent the recurrence of hypernatremia in your cat.

Are Straws Safe for Cats?

Your cat can have a bite of you veggie straws if it likes them. It should not consume them in large amounts because it might make them have excessive sodium in the blood.

Cats can make you believe that they are starving themselves while not. A cat that is not sick but wants to eat only treats and leave balanced cat food does so because you have provided the food. Offer a well-balanced cat food and it will eat it eventually.
